Long afterglow materials commonly known as noctilucent materials or light-storage luminescent materials, in the visible or ultraviolet light excited, can maintain dozens of minutes to dozens of hours of continuous luminescence. With the support of the national natural science foundation of China and the natural science foundation of anhui province, the research team of hefei university of technology adopted the first-principles calculation method to systematically study the electronic energy level structure of various impurities and defects in CaAl2O4: Eu, Nd, and perfectly explained the luminance mechanism of CaAl2O4: Eu, Nd and the causes of its long afterglow. For the foreseeable future, streetlamps made of long-afterglow materials can provide all-night lighting simply by basking in the sun during the day. Through the analysis of CaAl2O4:Eu,Nd luminescence mechanism, the scientists further put forward the design and synthesis of other new long lasting luminescence materials with excellent properties, the possible way and method, guide the experimenters to synthesize these new long lasting luminescence materials. It is a traditional method to prepare long afterglow materials by high temperature solid phase reaction method. Generally speaking, the general operation of solid phase reaction is to use solid powder as raw material.
